Ladies and gentlemen, in this 3-blog series I will succinctly explain the hallmarks of a Master Wedding DJ, please read each blog in order. I'll begin with preplanning (this blog) move to day-of execution (blog 2), and finally computer, sound and emcee dominance (blog 3).

I present to you, the Chattanooga Wedding DJ Planner, my perfected wedding planning method that ensures total victory. It's the backbone of my continued and increasing successes. It guarantees the bride and groom total control over the music, while asking all the right questions, and conveying important information. My promise of a perfect wedding starts with the fundamental idea that your day-of experience shouldn't be filled with more questions. Imagine what that looks like in practice as the DJ continually walks from the DJ Booth to either the Bride or Coordinator to ask questions in getting up to speed. Your guests are actually paying close attention to these disjointed happenings. Compare this to my only day-of question: "are you ready?"

What Should Be Included in a Professional Wedding DJ Planner?

A professional Chattanooga wedding DJ planner should give you full control over your music while making the planning process simple and organized. Here’s what a high-quality planner typically includes:

  • Basic Event Information — Bride and groom names, wedding date, venue details, coordinator contact information, and any important timeline notes.

  • Full Day-of Timeline — A clear schedule covering the entire wedding day, including ceremony order, cocktail hour, dinner service, reception dancing, and grand exit.

  • Music Playlists by Section — Organized song selections and playlists for:

    • Ceremony prelude and processional

    • Cocktail hour

    • Dinner hour

    • Reception dancing (slow songs, fast/upbeat songs, and line dances)

  • Special Moment Songs — Dedicated space for key songs such as first dance, father/daughter and mother/son dances, cake cutting, grand entrance, last dance, private “last last dance,” and grand exit.

  • Fun & Interactive Elements — Options for bouquet toss, garter removal, shoe game, table dash, or any other special activities you want included.

  • Rules & Preferences — Do-not-play list, who is allowed to make on-the-spot song requests, explicitness level, and any other custom instructions.

The best planners combine a physical song booklet with a simple digital questionnaire so everything is captured in one place and nothing gets missed on your wedding day.

2026 Chattanooga Wedding Day Timeline Checklist

Without giving my game away here's a very basic day-of plan checklist you should use to plan your wedding music. Of course there are many variations and add-ons to this.

  • Ceremony Prelude Music

  • Gmoms/Moms walk

  • Bridal Party walks; ends w/ Flower G / Ring B

  • Bride walks

  • Unity / Communion / Praise

  • Ceremony Ends; people eat horderves or just drink liquids while couple takes pics

  • Grand Entrance

  • First Dance

  • Welcome/Blessing

  • Dinner, Wedding Party goes first

  • Toasts

  • Cake Cutting

  • Father/Daughter Dance; everyone will come to the dance floor to view

  • Mother/Son Dance

  • Open Floor Dancing; everyone will join because they are already up and standing around the dance floor

  • DJ works magic, follows pre-requested options

  • Bouquet / Garter

  • Last Dance; about 15 minutes till end (allows for DJ crescendo)

  • Grand Exit

How I Personally Use the DJ Planner on Actual Chattanooga Weddings – Real Client Stories

Every couple is different, and that’s exactly why the DJ Planner system works so well. One bride might be very intricate and detailed in her descriptions to the DJ Planner questions — she’ll write paragraphs about her vision for each moment of the day. Another might be very minimalist, relying on choosing “DJ’s Choice” for many of the special songs, genres, and playlists. There is quite a difference between the two.

One bride might give me four complete Spotify playlists for Ceremony Prelude, Cocktail Hour, Dinner Hour, and Dancing. Another might give me nothing more than a copied and pasted list of 10–30 songs along with “DJ’s Choice.” This last approach actually allows me to craft what I know works with what she really likes. I blend her favorites with current trending songs that I know will keep the dance floor packed.

But regardless, it’s always a hit. I know how to craft the perfect soundtrack no matter the bulk or simplicity of the input. I know what’s trending because I work, on average, every weekend of the year. I average 52 weddings per year, not counting birthdays, daddy-daughter dances, and Christmas parties.

That real-world experience is what separates my planner system from anything else. The detailed bride gets her exact vision executed flawlessly. The minimalist bride gets total peace of mind knowing I’ve got her back with professionally picked songs, both popular and classic, choices that in retrospect feel like a game-changer because everyone danced to their hearts content. Both brides leave the wedding saying the music was the best part of the night.

These aren’t cherry-picked stories — this is what happens every single weekend with my With Class DJ Planner system. It removes the guesswork, is set up to protect the couple from last-minute chaos, and lets me focus entirely on reading the room and delivering the perfect day.

Physical DJ Planner

The Planner has two parts, the physical Planner and the digital hyperlink. You receive the physical DJ Planner immediately upon booking via USPS. This booklet will get you started with song ideas spanning from the prelude music of the ceremony to the grand exit of the reception. The pages include hundreds of small print song titles with artists. Of course you’ll be able to choose any songs and genres you wish, I have almost 200,000 on-hand songs and can retrieve almost any song playable on the internet. In essence, my song catalog includes any song you can imagine, all I need is the proper title and artist. My goal is to get your song info prior to the day-of so that in the rare case I don't already have it I can find and download it. At a live event I am able to play songs from my Spotify Premium account but this is a worst-case-scenario situation as I'm relying on my cell's Verizon Wireless signal, and have much less control in manipulating the song. The booklet's listed song samples are a way to get your musical brain flowing as you hone in on your ideal vision. Make all the notes you want, you won’t have to send the booklet back to me. You'll eventually transfer your answers to the Digital DJ Planner.

Digital DJ Planner

The Digital DJ Planner (DDJP) is a robust questionnaire I created in Google Forms. Its hyperlink is auto-sent via email 30 days prior to your wedding, although you’re welcome to have it sooner. I ask all the right questions while giving you full control of the song selections; I'm handing you the batton. Every bit of information about your wedding will be entered here, and there is plenty of room for copy and paste. You'll also repeat all previous conversation information you've had with me, be it audio or video. There will be no need to send separate information emails and texts; these can easily be lost in the shuffle. Step-by-step the Digital DJ Planner will walk you through the basics and intricacies of your wedding. This is why I say, "Lights, Camera, Details!" Asking all the right pre-wedding questions will make your day spectacular.

How To Choose Songs For Wedding

Choosing the right songs for your wedding is more than just picking your favorites — it’s about creating the perfect soundtrack that tells your love story while keeping the energy flowing from the first guest arrival all the way to the last dance. Follow these simple steps: First, break your wedding day into key moments — ceremony prelude to welcome everyone, processional and bridal entrance, recessional, cocktail hour, dinner music, and the big dance party. Next, pick meaningful tracks for your first dance, parent dances, and any special moments that feel personal. Then balance them with timeless crowd-pleasers that get multiple generations on their feet. Think about flow and mix tempos so the vibe builds naturally. Don’t forget a short “do-not-play” list to avoid anything that doesn’t fit your vision. Finally, use my DJ Planners to make everything effortless — you’ll receive a physical booklet packed with hundreds of curated song ideas organized by the day-of timeline, plus the Digital DJ Planner questionnaire that makes it simple to customize everything (or just hand it over with “DJ’s Choice” and let me take care of the rest). The result? A stress-free, perfectly executed playlist that feels 100% you.

Any Bride, One DJ

Yes, I’m a DJ for the most thorough bride, but I’m also good to go with minimalism. You can personally pick all your songs and genres or you can leave it up to "DJ’s Choice." This allows me to morph into any bride’s specifications and vision. In addition to picking all your specialty songs you’re welcome to create playlists for 1) the Ceremony Prelude music, 2) the Cocktail Hour, 3) the Dinner Hour, 4) and the Dance Party. For years my fellow vendors say they love that my product is “always different, it’s never cookie cutter like other DJs.” This stems from my adherence to the bride and groom’s prescribed wishes (hopefully eclectic) on the DJ Planner, along with my musical knowledge for specific age groups and ability to read the crowd.

Information Transfer

You’ll need to use a Gmail account as the DDJP is a Google Form and will auto-save your answers and progress. I strongly suggest completing this form from a laptop, not from your cell phone, so that you don’t mistakenly lose your answers with a glitch. The Planner is due 10 days prior to the wedding. I've set this timeframe so that the stress of the task is completed before your non-DJ week-of stress begins. I will, however, finalize on the week-of. This includes possible questions from your submission that I don’t understand. It could be as simple as "Tom" or "Thomas?", or as detailed as needing a 5 to 10 minute phone call. Either way, I aim to get everything settled 2-3 days before the day-of. I'll then compare your submission with your hired Coordinator's timeline and notes, addressing inconsistencies. I'll lastly print out my 6-7 pages of formatted perfection, each page flowing from one happening to the next.

15-year Planner History

My perfected Digital DJ Planner, which allows me to guarantee "Perfect weddings, Every. Single. Time." is simply a 15-year product of trial and error. There was never a cheat sheet. I formulated the better-prep idea after my first few gigs back in 2011. One wedding I would work with an Experienced Wedding Coordinator, and the next with a Bride’s helpful mother. I quickly realized, for the most part the “standard” is what I say it is.

There’s no governing body combing through weddings calling party fouls for unprepared or pushy coordinators, photographers / caterers handing out orders as if they're the acting day-of planner, flipping the timeline on its head, weird or meandering announcements, forcing untimely announcements, poor sound issues, wrong-song cringe, equipment glitches, untimely transitions, and wardrobe fails, to name a few.
Having post-event fellow-vendor improvement-chats are strangely taboo. I've personally tried to have light post-wedding conversations to discuss miscues and communication fails; they all seem to end with animosity rather than thankfulness and professional growth.
The Digital Planner was born after three years of attempting to read returned and illegible physical DJ Planners. Should I LOL that? Anyways… Here’s a quick “Lesson Learned” note. In my first year of work a bride wanted to hear Michael Franti, 'Say Hey' as her Grand Entrance. I played the song as it was labeled but turns out I owned the San Francisco Giants version. Yes, they all entered confused while cheering for the Giants because 1) they had no choice, and 2) it was too late to change the song. I learned not to take anything for granted. And the lessons learned were ongoing, each weekend, each year, making minor corrections in becoming the top level DJ you see before you now.

DJ Hunting Advice

Each DJ is essentially creating their own standard of excellence. Maybe now you know why I un-affectionately call this “The Wild West Wedding Industry,” expanded on my Google Reviews Blog. Crazy if you think about it to long. So then, your job in hiring the perfect DJ is discovering their personal standards of excellence. This is why I strongly encourage clients to have a video chat with all your potential DJ picks. Ask them how they gather the information needed to pull off the wedding of your dreams. Are they neat and organized? Are they present and in-the-moment? Do they know how to take a good pic or video? This one always gets me: 'why in the world would you hire a person who’s digitally challenged to perform digital mastery (blog 3 of 3)?' How about actual fitness? Does this person look like they're ready to boogie with you on the dancefloor or in need of a chair to catch their breath, and a towel to wipe the sweat off the DJ controller? I cover this and much more in the next two must-read blogs.

Chattanooga Wedding Twist

As a top Chattanooga wedding DJ serving the Scenic City and beyond, I've tailored the DJ Planner to fit local favorites — from incorporating Chattanooga's love for outdoor ceremonies at spots like the Hunter Museum or The Walden Club (a Best-of Wedding Venue), to blending country classics with modern hits for that Tennessee flair. 2026 trends are tracking immersive experiences: think custom soundscapes that sync with your venue's vibe, ensuring a packed dance floor without missing a beat. Plus, with Chattanooga's eco-conscious venues, my DJ Planner supports sustainable sound choices; my set ups are low-energy, great for outdoor bashes (on its own my gear has never flipped a breaker). Embrace 2026's vintage revival with retro playlists or film-inspired intros, all customizable in the Planner. Whether you're planning a riverside reception or a barn bash, the DJ Planner lets you highlight do-not-miss moments, like a Grand Entrance timed to the Chattanooga sunset. Ready to plan the perfect Chattanooga wedding? Let's make your day legendary.

Frequently Asked  Questions About The DJ Planner

What is the DJ Planner?

The DJ Planner is a perfected music-planning system developed over 15 years by DJ Mark of With Class Weddings in Chattanooga. It combines a physical song-samples booklet (mailed to you immediately upon booking) with a comprehensive Digital DJ Planner (Google Form) so you have total control over every song, playlist, and detail of your wedding day—from ceremony through reception.

How does the Digital DJ Planner work?

The Digital DJ Planner is a thorough Google Forms questionnaire that I email to you about 30 days before your wedding. It covers every aspect of your music: song selections by event phase (prelude, ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, dance party), playlists, special requests, do-not-play lists, explicitness level, on-the-spot request rules, and more. Everything is compiled in one place for flawless execution.

When do I receive and complete the Digital DJ Planner?

You receive the Digital DJ Planner hyperlink approximately 30 days prior to your wedding (or sooner upon request). It is due back 10 days before the event, giving us time to review everything together and make any final tweaks during the week of your wedding.

Do you take on-the-spot song requests at the wedding?

Absolutely yes—or no, depending on your preference! In the Digital DJ Planner you choose who can make on-the-spot requests with these options: A) No one (I already have all the songs you want), B) Only the family and bridal party, C) Anyone can, or D) Other (custom rules).

Can I create a do-not-play list?

Yes. The Digital DJ Planner includes a dedicated section where you list all of your Do-Not-Play songs so I know exactly what to avoid.

Can I add special dances, such as with my mom or others?

Yes. The Digital DJ Planner has a specific section for Additional and/or Alternate Specialty Dance(s), so you can easily include any extra parent dances, anniversary dances, or other special moments.

Can you edit songs, like starting the recessional at the chorus?

Yes. I will studio-edit your Recessional song (starting at the chorus if desired) at no extra charge. Other ceremony song edits are available but may cost extra as noted in our contract.

Do you DJ outdoor weddings?

I do not DJ outside unless proper rain cover (tent or shelter) is provided. This policy protects my equipment and ensures your event runs smoothly no matter the weather.

What explicit content options are available for songs?

It’s completely up to you. In the Digital DJ Planner you select the vibe for the party: A) Classy (super clean, no sexual innuendo), B) Sassy (clean versions with expected innuendo), C) Nasty (full tilt but no explicit versions), D) Savage (ratchet & bougie—play savagely explicit versions), or E) Other (custom instructions).
